Dietary and allergy information can be sensitive and may reveal health-related information. The Cookery requests this information only where it is relevant to planning or safely managing a class or event.
Where you provide dietary or allergy information about yourself or another guest, you should ensure that the information is accurate and that you are authorised to provide it.
Depending on the circumstances, The Cookery may process personal information because it is necessary to perform or prepare a booking or service requested by you, because the law permits or requires the processing, because The Cookery has a legitimate business need that does not unjustifiably infringe your privacy, or because you have consented where consent is required.
Providing information needed to complete a booking or event arrangement is voluntary, but The Cookery may be unable to provide the requested service if essential information is not supplied.
Online payments may be processed by third-party payment service providers. The Cookery does not intentionally store full payment-card details on its own website systems.
Payment providers process information under their own security and privacy arrangements. The Cookery may receive payment status, transaction references and other information needed to reconcile and manage the booking.
The website may use cookies and similar technologies for essential website functions, shopping-cart and checkout functionality, security, performance measurement and analytics.
Some cookies are necessary for the website and booking system to work. Other analytics or preference technologies may be controlled through the website settings or browser controls where applicable.
Third-party websites reached through social-media or external links have their own privacy and cookie practices.
The Cookery does not sell personal information.
Personal information may be shared only where reasonably necessary with service providers that support the website, hosting, email, booking system, payment processing, event administration, accounting, professional advice or IT/security services.
Information may also be disclosed where required by law, regulation, court process or a lawful request from a competent authority, or where necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of The Cookery, its guests or others.
Service providers are expected to handle personal information appropriately and only for the relevant service.
Some technology or service providers may process or store information outside South Africa. Where this occurs, The Cookery will take reasonable steps to ensure that the transfer and processing are handled in a manner consistent with applicable data-protection requirements.
The Cookery keeps personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to maintain booking and customer-service records, to comply with tax, accounting or legal obligations, to resolve disputes, or to protect legitimate business interests.
Information that is no longer required will be deleted, destroyed or de-identified where reasonably practicable.
The Cookery uses reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, misuse, alteration or disclosure.
No internet service can guarantee absolute security. If The Cookery becomes aware of a security compromise involving personal information, it will respond in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
Subject to applicable law, you may ask The Cookery to confirm whether it holds personal information about you and may request access to that information.
You may also ask for inaccurate information to be corrected or, where legally appropriate, for information to be deleted or destroyed. You may object to certain processing and may withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Requests can be sent to info@thecookery.co.za. The Cookery may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
The Cookery will use personal information for electronic direct marketing only where permitted by law. Marketing messages will provide a reasonable way to unsubscribe or opt out.
Transactional messages connected with an existing booking, payment or enquiry are service communications and may still be sent where needed to manage the booking.
If you provide personal information about another guest, colleague or participant, you should make sure that you are authorised to do so and that the person understands why the information is being supplied.
Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
If you believe your personal information has been handled in a way that does not comply with POPIA, you may raise the matter with The Cookery first so that it can be investigated.
You also have the right to approach the Information Regulator (South Africa). Current regulator contact information is available at www.inforegulator.org.za. The regulator currently lists enquiries@inforegulator.org.za and 010 023 5200 as general contact details.
